Heysal Stadium Disaster - Soccer

Soccer has seen a few deaths and injuries when rival clubs collide, this one was historic. The incident at the Haysel Stadium was devestating and is reported to be the worst case of Football Hooliganism to date.

It was 1985, a few years prior to the horrific 1989 soccer disaster at Hillsboroughand one the reasons why the security measures at Hillsborough caused so many deaths. After the deaths at Heysal, tighter security measures went into place. Those measures were later blamed for Hillsborough.

The Hillsborough disaster was the worst of recorded British games. To date 96 people have dies because of it but the controversy over the Hillsborough Sopccer incident did not stop the day it happened. The hillsborough soccer disaster went on with mud slinging, contreversy, blame and madness.

Hillsborough Disaster

April 15 th 1989 marks one of the darkest days in Soccer history and the day that soccer stadiums would drastically change seating arrangements for fans. The game only lasted a few minutes and at days end 94 people were killed and hundreds injured at Hillsborough stadium in Sheffield during the FA Cup semi-final between Nottingham Forest and Liverpool.

Soccer games had long had a history of unruly fans and violence between rival clubs. For this reason, extra security measures and high fences had been used to keep fans off the pitch. Since the 60's Hillsborogh stadium had seen injuries and fan crushes, but never like the one that happened on this day.
