ST. LOUIS - It's the seventh game of the season, but for St. Louis Athletica, today's a new day.read more
New stadium, new look and - if coach Jorge Barcellos has his way - a new result.
Following a 2-0 defeat at Los Angeles last week, Athletica will debut their new home field at 3 p.m. today when they play host to Sky Blue FC at the Anheuser-Busch Soccer Park in Fenton, their new home turf.
The game is the first of the season between the two clubs. Both teams will be looking to jump from the bottom of the standings into playoff positions. St. Louis and Sky Blue FC of New York/New Jersey each has eight points. They're at the bottom of the standings, but just four points away from second place.
The Women's Professional Soccer standings have become crowded from No. 2 to No. 7. Just four points separate second place from last. A victory will put the winner in good position.
"This is going to be another tough game for us just as each game in this league is proving to be a tough game for all the teams," Barcellos said. "I have said this before about WPS - very good league. "
Each team has scored six goals this year and allowed eight. Each was winless in its first four games and each has been shut out four times. Each club has a home record of 1-1-1 and has one win and one tie on the road. Athletica has a game in hand - Sky Blue FC has one more road loss.
